We are looking for a Development & Communications Manger to join our small but dedicated team in Cambridge.

About the organisation: Relationships Foundation is the think tank for a better connected society. It was set up in 1993 to develop relational thinking and engage with policy makers. We believe that a good society is built on good relationships, from family and community to public service and business. We study the effect that culture, business and government have on relationships.

Vacancy Description: You will support the Executive Director in all aspects of the Foundation’s communications with supporters and donors, press and other stakeholders and in the day-to-day administration of the charity. In managing the Foundation’s website, social media and supporter relations you will make sure our voice is an influential voice for social change.

Vacancy Type: Full-time work

Salary: Up to £23k depending on experience

Start Date: Preferably from last week of August

Location: Cambridge with some travel to London

Areas of responsibility:

1. Donor relations: Managing the donor relations function for the Relationships Foundation and its campaigns, ensuring that appropriate systems for database updating, thank-you letters and welcome letters are in place. Sending out monthly email newsletters and periodic appeals for financial support, including management of our database to produce appropriate mailing lists.

2. Communications: Working with the Executive Director in updating the website and managing Facebook, Twitter and other social media. Commissioning the design and print of brochures, pamphlets and other hard copy materials. In-house design and production of publicity materials. Updating press contact lists and sending out press releases. Fielding incoming requests for news articles and broadcast interviews.

3. Event management: Organising any events and seminars that may be held including arranging venues and managing invitations.

4. Governance and management: Assisting the Executive Director in the administration of the charity including arranging Trustees’ meetings, taking minutes, office management and other assistance as may be required.

Person Specification:

The post-holder will..

  • have a strong track record in donor/customer relations
  • have a proven ability to make things happen
  • have excellent verbal and written communication skills; be able to prioritise and have excellent attention to detail
  • be IT literate, able to use Microsoft Office software and familiar with databases
  • be committed to Relationships Foundation’s ethos and goals and comfortable working within the values of the Judeo-Christian tradition which underpin the work of Relationships Foundation
  • be confident in using social media and in updating website content
  • have some editorial experience and experience in events coordination and good political acumen
  • have some experience of working in the charitable sector, but this is not essential
